Voice of America Calendar 2019 for January

Voice of America Calendar 2019 for January.

FEATURED: The Great River Road is one of North America's longest and most important scenic byways along the course of the Mississippi River. It stretches from northern Minnesota to the Gulfof Mexico, crossing 10 states and hundreds of river towns. This byway is rich with history, serving as a source of life for the Dakota, Chippewa and Hopewell Native American societies, an escape for African-Americans on the Underground Railroad in the 1800s, and a route for French voyageurs primarily in the 1700s.

Voice of America Calendar 2019

This year the Voice of America is crisscrossing the United States through the scenic byways and highways of the country. From the Florida Keys Highway that weaves through a chain of tropical islands for 110 miles from Key Largo to Key West, to historic Route 66 that winds from the Midwest to the Pacific Ocean, the visitor cannot miss the immense natural diversity of the American landscape. That's what the Voice of America has to offer in this 2019 calendar, U.S. Scenic Byways. Thank you, Voice of America and Larry London!

Historic QSL Card from KFEL

Historic QSL card from Radio Station KFEL (Denver, 1923-1954) -- "The New Cry of the Old West." I never knew this station existed, as it was not around when I lived in Colorado (1966 - 1985). KFEL was Denver's second-oldest radio station; the other station is KOA (850 kHz), which is still in operation. After several frequency moves, KFEL eventually settled on 950 kHz.

Over the years this frequency in Denver was operated by:
KFEL (1923-1954)
KIMN (1954-1988)
KYGO (1988-1994)
KKFN (1994-2008)
KRWZ (2008-2016)
KKSE (2016 - Present)

The KFEL call letters  (970 kHz) are still used, but the station now broadcasts a Catholic religious format from Pueblo, Colorado, USA.

Souvenirs from Voice of Vietnam

Lately in lieu of QSL cards from the Voice of Vietnam I have received many souvenirs, including postage stamps, bookmarks and this New Year's greeting card. I'm not sure what the reason is for this, but apparently other radio enthusiasts have received the same from the English Service of Voice of Vietnam. It's not that I mind, I just wonder what has happened to the QSLs promised in their emails.
