50th Anniversary of the First Tahiti-France Radio Link

FRENCH POLYNESIA (TAHITI) on 18 December 1965 offered a First Day Cover stamp marking the 50th Anniversary of the first Tahiti-France radio link (29 December 1915).

I am assuming "radio link" is referring partly to ORTF to Radio Tahiti as well as other communication links.

I obtained this FDC because Radio Tahiti was one of those Asia-Pacific stations I logged in the 1970s while living in Colorado (USA). I especially remember listening at nights. Polynesian music played non-stop while it snowed in Denver, and I would imagine sunny, palm-fringed beaches and beautiful people in native dress, far away from this miserable cold, grey, snowy winter's night.

Papua New Guinea Centenary of Radio FDC & Brochure

PAPUA NEW GUINEA 11 September 1996 released a First Day Cover of four stamps to commemorate the centenary of radio. These colourful stamps featured a radio control tracking desk, radio transmitter with pedal powered generator, satellite dish and radio DJ. A brochure accompanied  this FDC with details about the stamps and the write up on the  centenary of radio in Papua New Guinea.

Having listened and received QSLs from many of Papua New Guinea's shortwave outlets, it is nice to own this addition piece of NBC history.
