- 50CNTS, 1.50PTAS, 3PTAS,  a dromedary (one-humped) camel  in the background and a young man in traditional attire with flute performing a tune; and

- 70CNTS, 2PTAS, 10PTAS, a young woman dressed in regional clothes and ornaments performing a song on a traditional drum.

Spanish Sahara (Sahara Español in Spanish and الصحراء الإسبانية‎‎ — As-Sahrā’a Al-Isbānīyah in Arabic), officially the Overseas Province of the Spanish Sahara (Provincia Ultramarina del Sahara Español and إقليم الصحراء الإسبانية ما وراء البحار), was the name used for the modern territory of Western Sahara when it was occupied and ruled as a territory by Spain between 1884 and 1975. Spanish Sahara lay between Mauritania and Morocco and bordered Algeria to the northeast. Under UN pressure, Spain eventually relinquished its colonial claim in 1976.

SAAR (under French protectorate) issued on 6 May 1956 a 15 Fr postage stamp showing the Schwartzenberg telecommunications and observation tower on Schwartzenberg,  Saarbrücken. Postmark originated from Hilbringen Über Merzig, (Saar).

The square - section tower was built in 1930 of reinforced concrete. The builder of the tower was undertaken by the St. Johann Beautification Society, and the design was drawn up by the Saarbrücken city architect at the time, Hermann Leiber . The foundation stone was laid on 27 June 1930, and the tower was inaugurated on 12 October 1930.

During World War II, the Schwarzenberg Tower was only slightly damaged, and the damaged portion was repaired in 1949.

Due to its height at 377 meters above sea level, the Schwarzenberg Tower has been used by several operators for radio purposes since the 1950s. Transmitters for police and fire brigade radio, VHF radio and mobile radio are currently installed on the top of the tower.

Radio Related Philately - New Zealand

NEW ZEALAND POST between 1992 till 1995 issued a series of stamps entitled the "The Emerging Years" which highlighted developments in the country during the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. Each decade featured six stamps, making a total of 24 stamps in this four-year print run. Each set showed images relevant to the decade and used the type of lettering suggestive of it. Amongst two of the decades were stamps that referred to radio programmes and broadcasting in New Zealand.

50c - Broadcasting and radio in New Zealand was born on the night of 17 November 1921 when Dr Robert Jack, Professor of Physics at Otago University, switched on a small transmitter in his Dunedin laboratory and began broadcasting music from gramophone records. The country promptly became wildly enthusiastic about the new-fangled 'wireless' that could pick up voices and music from the air, and by the end of 1927 more than 30,000 homes had radio licences. The Radio Broadcasting Company of New Zealand was established in 1925 with stations in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. By 1929 they were a staple in most middle class homes.

$1 - Aunty Daisy (Grace Green) was a well-known NZ radio personality of the 1940s and 1950s who was known for her cheery demeanour, hints on being a good housewife, gardening, feminine etiquette and every other conformity with mid-20th century sexist stereotypes of womanhood. She is still remembered with affection by the older generation. She had several cookbooks published as well.

South East Asia DXing Update

Those who follow  South East Asia DXing may have noticed fewer entries than in years past. The reason for this is twofold: one, there are fewer stations to log and contact in my region of the world; two, those stations that I do submit reception reports  to often do not respond, so no QSLs are forthcoming to  post.

On my Facebook page I do occasionally upload audio-videos of stations currently being heard here, among them being Radio Algerienne, Voice of Mongolia, NHK Radio Japan, Korea Broadcasting System, Voice of Korea, RTM WAI FM (Malaysia), Voice of Vietnam, Radio Thailand, Radio Taiwan International, China Radio International, China National Radio, Beibu Bay Radio, Radio Free Asia, Radio Liberty, Radio Romania International, Radio Exterior Espana, Voice of Turkey, Radio New Zealand Pacific, Voice of Indonesia, BBC, Islamic Republic of Iran, Saudi Arabia Broadcasting, Voice of America, All  India Radio, Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, Radio Havana Cuba, WRMI, Adventist World Radio, Vatican Radio, KNLS, MVO, Bible Voice Broadcasting, TWR Guam and Swaziland, FEBC, Radio Pilipinas and numerous clandestine stations.

As mentioned, most of these stations I have submitted post-Covid 19 reception reports to. Often however with no reply, both by mail and email. So, under these conditions it is difficult to be active in this hobby as before. That said, I shall soldier on and continue DXing, albeit when time permits and conditions are more favourable.

Happy DXing! 73.
