Logbook 1-6 August 2017

GERMANY
New shortwave station in Lower Saxony* was logged in a test transmission using the remote SDR receiver at Twente (The Netherlands). Frequent station IDs and details about future broadcasts intended for the UK and Europe was observed between English pop songs from 17.58 till 19.00 UTC. Reception on  6.160 kHz initially rated a SINPO of 13221 -- terribly weak, station splatter, no real discernible content. Had to set receiver to AMsync just to detect their signal. Reception improved to 34343 after 18.50 UTC with audible and clear content.

GREECE
Voice of Greece
with station ID and delightful Greek music was heard from 19.00 UTC on their usually frequency of 9.420 kHz. Reception rated a SINPO of 45544.

ROMANIA
Radio Romania International in German language broadcast was heard just before sign-off at 18.50 UTC, announcing frequencies and contact details. Reception on 9.775 kHz was remarkably good at 44554. Only annoying transmitter noise made reception less than perfect, otherwise no co-frequency interference, no fading, no atmospheric noise.

TURKEY
Voice of Turkey in a Turkish language broadcast was noted with station ID and music after 18.25 UTC. Reception on 9.460 kHz rated a SINP) of 45444.

UAE
Radio Farda on medium-wave frequency of 1575 kHz was observed after 19.00 UTC with news magazine/talk format. SINPO rated 24322 -- weak to fair signal, intermittent fading, atmospheric noise with occasionally clear and audible content.

UZBEKISTAN
Adventist World Radio
, transmitting from Tashkent, was  monitored from 16.10 till 16.30 UTC (broadcast time16.00 till 16.30 UTC). A segment of Wavescan featuring the history of the Australian VLN call sign, JSWC DX report, and Indonesian music was heard in this half-hour show. Reception on 11.985 kHz was (SINPO) 34343 -- fair signal strength, atmospheric noise and slight fade, yet clear and audible content was received. Initially Wavescan was logged on 11.975 kHz (Trincomalee, Sri Lanka), but their signal dropped off completely by 16.15 UTC.


VATICAN
Vatican Radio in Santa Maria di Galeria aired a Ukrainian language programme from 16.40 till 17.00 UTC.  Reception on the short-wave frequency of 11.715 kHz was good for much of the transmission with a SINPO 54544 -- excellent signal strength, clear audio, almost unnoticeable fade. A broadcast in the Belorussian followed at 17.00 UTC.
