Australian Broadcasting Corporation - 6KP (Karratha)

Australian Broadcasting Corporation - 6KP in Karratha, Pilbara Region, NW Western Australia was logged on 20 April 2020 (21 April 2020, WA date). Early Mornings with Barry Nicholls featured discussions and music, including The Beatles - "Hey Jude" from 20.15 till 21.15 UTC (04.15 till 05.15 am, WA time). Reception on  702 kHz was SINPO: 34322 -- moderate signal strength and clear audio content when not fading under every two to three minutes.

Reception report was emailed the following day. As Covid-19 cases increased in Australia ABC offices reduced staff and mail service. Even the veri-signer was unable to respond immediately due to his work load. I sent a few follow-up reports in the intervening months, then finally I received a verification email on 27 September 2020. Thank you very much, Graham!

Australian Broadcasting Corporation - 4QR (Brisbane)

Australian Broadcasting Corporation
 - 4QR in Brisbane, Queensland on 612 kHz was logged on 14 March 2020. Or, it may have been ABC Radio National - 6RN in Western Australia. I suspect it is the 50kW station 4QR rather than the 10kW 6RN. While propagation was not particularly good, this station managed to pop up shortly after 19.00 UTC for about 5 minutes. Afterwards it was barely audible, and only in one or two second snippets after several minutes apart, all of which leads me to believe it was 4QR.

Reception on the medium-wave frequency of 558 kHz was SINPO 33533 -- moderate signal strength, occasionally clear audio content despite co-frequency mixing with possible Iran or Pakistan station. Actually signal was much stronger around 17.45 UTC.

FRS Holland*

FRS Holland* aired a special 40th Anniversary programme on 30 August 2020.  DJ Scott was observed hosting a retrospective of oldies music, off-shore radio (Sunshine Radio) broadcasts and talked about FRS's history. For my part, I monitored the transmission from 17.40 till 18.30 UTC.

Reception was detected on the short-wave frequencies of 7.700 kHz and 5.790 kHz. However, I found 7.700 kHz to be the best. SINPO for 5.790 kHz at 17.45 UTC was 34323 -- despite  fading, atmospheric disturbance, poor to fair signal strength, clear audio content. SINPO for 7.700 kHz at 18.00 UTC was 55555. Inasmuch as FRS Holland could not be received directly in Malaysia for this broadcast, I resorted to using the remote SDR receiver located in a Netherlands.

Reception report was emailed to FRS Holland on the following day. An eQSL and message from Peter Verbruggen was received on 16 September 2020.

Voice of Turkey via Emirler was received on 6 April 2020. An Azeri broadcast of cultural progammes and a lot of Turkish pop music was noted from 15.40 till 16.25 UTC. Reception on 9.505 kHz was SINPO 55555 -- excellent on all accounts up until 16.00 UTC when some QRM was detected, which degraded SINPO to 54544 -- still a very decent signal to receive content of programmes.

Nippon Hoso Kyokai 2 / JOBB (via Osaka)

Nippon
Hoso Kyokai  2 / Osaka Broadcasting Station (JOBB) in Habikino City, Osaka, Japan was logged on 30 November 2019.

After an apparent delay in mail delivery -- an estimated eight months -- due to the Covid-19 pandemic I received this envelope from Osaka. Inside, it contained a station sticker, radio programme schedule, Japan travel leaflet, postcard of Japanese actors and a semi-verification card.

I say "semi-verification" as NHK-2 stations on MW are rarely verified nowadays, but they do acknowledge receipt of emails/letters. Why bother to send any of these items is a mystery; apparently it is a cultural courtesy of the Japanese, and if so,  I appreciate the gesture.

Whatever the case, NHK-2 / JOBB featured a mostly talk format in Japanese with occasional music when the station was monitored from 21.05 UTC, on 828 kHz with SINPO of 25432 -- weak to fair signal, clear content, fading, no interference until 22.00 UTC.

Reception report was mailed and emailed in early December 2019. This semi-verification arrived in the mail on 14 August 2020.
