KVOH - Voice of Hope (California)

KVOH - Voice of Hope, transmitting from Simi Valley, California (USA) was logged on 7 April 2015. The programme "Musica y Ministerio" (religious music and commentary presented by a male announcer) was monitored from 18.45 till 19.00 UTC (broadcast time 14.00 till 19.00 UTC). Reception on 17.775 kHz was (SINPO) 25421 -- a weak but audible signal, with frequent fading and slight atmospheric noise was observed.

Previous attempts to receive WVOH in Malaysia had proved futile until today. Ideal propagation, standard operating frequency, Spanish language content and sign-off at 19.00 UTC made  it possible to identify WVOH; otherwise the station might have gone unnoticed. To say the least, I was lucky to catch this one.

Reception report was emailed on 8 April 2015. A few hours later Ray Robinson, the Operations Manager at WVOH, replied with confirmation and the promise of a QSL card, saying: "Greetings, Timm!  Thank you for this report.  We'll be very happy to send you our QSL card". QSL card arrived in the mail on 11 June 2015.

Zwei QSL-Karten aus Deutschland

Two QSL Cards from Germany arrived in the letterbox recently: Welle 370 and DPO7 German Marine Radio. Both stations were logged via broadcasts over Radio 700 in Kall-Krekel, using the SDR facililty at The University of Twente in the Netherlands. Although received from a remote web-radio I am delighted to have heard and moreover pleased to have acquired their respective QSLs. Danke und 73!

Deutsche Welle (via Pinheira)

Deutsche Welle, transmitting from Pinheira, Sao Tome, was logged on 4 April 2015. Music with commentary on Nigeria was  monitored from 18.20 till 19.00 UTC (broadcast time 18.00 till 19.00 UTC). Reception on 9.830 kHz was (SINPO) 23441 -- weak, but audible signal when  severe QRM similar to jamming was not present. At 18.38 UTC, noise ceased but some station splatter from RTM Sarawak FM was present. Interference was muted when operating in LSB mode. Signal remained weak, but more clearly audible.

Reception report was emailed on 6 April 2015. QSL card arrived in the mail on 30 April 2015.

AWR Relays from Africa

Adventist World Radio earlier this year relayed transmissions from two sites on the African continent. One was from the famed Deutsche Welle site in Kigali, Rwanda, and the other was from the SENTEC facility in Meyerton, South Africa. As most DXers know the Kigali site ceased operation on 28 March 2015, and it will soon be dismantled. So, it is with a certain amount of pride the Kigali site was received one last time, and an AWR broadcast was QSLed. Similarly, AWR from Meyerton was QSLed for a broadcast which aired late last year.

All India Radio - Jaipur

All India Radio - Jaipur in the state of Rajasthan was logged on 1 April 2015. A Hindi language broadcast with a lengthy sitar composition and news bulletin was observed from 17.00 till 17.40 UTC. Reception on 4.910 kHz was less than perfect due largely to QRM splatter from PBS Xizang (Tibet) and a fairly weak signal, thus turning in a SINPO rating of 23442.

Reception report was emailed to AIR Jaipur and Spectrum Management on 2 April 2015. Insomuch as Spectrum Management has QSLed three reports in the past year, I thought I would contact AIR Jaipur once again. A QSL card did indeed arrive in the mail, after being mis-routed to Jakarta, on 22 June 2015.

QSL for AIR Port Blair (Adaman & Nicobar Islands)

All India Radio - Port Blair, transmitting from their 10kW facility on the Adaman & Nicobar Islands, confirmed a recent reception report of their station. FINALLY! After over three years of trying to get their verification  I succeeded. Today, on 1 April 2015 -- and this is no April Fool's Joke -- Spectrum Management (the veri-signer for AIR) sent a verification card. I gotta say I'm bustin' buttons over this QSL card!

The QSL card itself depicts Panch Mahal or "Badgir", a five-storey palace in Fatehpur Sikri, Uttar Pradesh, India. The pavilion was built by Akbar the Great. It was a pleasure palace  used primarily for relaxation and entertainment purposes.
