The Voice Asia (via Uzbekistan)

The Voice Asia (CVC International), transmitting from presumedly Tashkent, Uzbekistan, was received on 10 December 2011.  A Hindi language broadcast was monitored from 04.45 to  06.05 UTC on 13.630 kHz. Reception (SINPO) at 04.45 UTC was 15322 - weak signal strength coupled with severe atmospheric noise, yet speech and music was clearly audible and identifiable; at 05.50 UTC reception was 25332 -- slightly improved signal strength and less noise, making speech more discernible was observed. 

Reception report was emailed. A eQSL card arrived on 15 December 2011 from Sonia Paul, Assistant Administrator for The Voice Asia.

TRAXX FM in Malaysia

RTM - TRAXX  FM in Malaysia is back on short-wave at 7.295 kHz.  English language news, advertisements and pop music were heard from 03.00 UTC onwards on 9 December 2011.

Deutsche Welle Freebies

Deutsche Welle posted a small parcel recently. Besides a QSL card for a reception report regarding their relay station in United Arab Emirate. (see November blog listing), I received two DW pens, tote bag, strap and lanyard. 

HCJB - 2012 Desktop Calendar

HCJB from its Brazilian headquarters mailed in addition to a QSL card (see September blog date), this 2012 desktop calendar.

These items have quite a history. From the start HCJB-Quito, transmitting  out of Santiago, Chile,  was a difficult station to hear in Malaysia, but sufficient to ID and discern programming for about 45 minutes under poor conditions. Once the reception report was compiled, I submitted an email to HCJB in Brazil and HCJB Global in USA. I received an email to contact HCJB at a German email address. Subsequently, I communicated in German to obtain an eQSL, then this QSL card and a 2012 desktop calendar. The later two items arrived in the mail on 8 December 2011, after receiving an email two weeks earlier stating they were en route to Malaysia. Needless to say, I am quite proud of this accomplishment.

VMW - Bureau of Meteorology, Western Australia

eQSL sent by BOM

VMW - Bureau of Meteorology in Wiluna, Western Australia was heard on 3 December 2011 (UTC) / 4 December 2011 (Australia and Malaysia). A male announcer speaking English  announced the weather conditions (i.e. temperature, wind speed, tect) for Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania was monitored from 20.00 to 20.04 UTC. Transmission was  on 6.230 kHz (USB/SSB). Reception (SINPO) was 45333 -- a relatively strong signal with no interference, only slight fading and minimal atmospheric noise

Reception report was emailed to Bureau of Meteorology, Australia. Self-made e-QSL was signed and emailed to me from Bureau of Meteorology in Western Australia on 12 December 2011. On 15 February 2012, a follow-up eQSL was sent by BOM.

Radio Habana Cuba New Year's Greetings

Pocket Calendar

Radio Habana Cuba posted a 2012 New Year's card and two pocket calendars. RHC International Correspondence Officer, Rosario Lafita Fernandez emailed a week mentioning these items were en route. True enough, these items arrived in the mail on 6 December 2011.

Radio Taiwan International (via Issoudun)

Radio Taiwan International, transmitting from Issoudun, France, was logged on 2 November 2011. RTI's Russian language service was monitored from 17.30 to 17.58 UTC (broadcast time 17.00 to 17.58 UTC (broadcast time 17.00 to 17.58 UTC) on  7.465 kHz. Reception (SINPO) was 25333 -- fair signal strength with no interference, only slight QRN and fading. 

Reception report was submitted by email. QSL card arrived in the mail on 6 December 2011.
