Logbook for 1-3 September 2017

AUSTRALIA
Ozy Radio* in Razorback (near Camden) New South Wales was received on 2 September 2017, from 09.44 till 10.15 UTC, on the short-wave frequency of  5.045 kHz, using the KiwiSDR at Freemans Reach (Australia). Direct reception in Malaysia of this 500 watt station is next to impossible owing to QRM splatter from Beibu Bay Radio (China) on 5.050 KHz and AIR Kolkata (Jeypore, India) on 5.040 kHz. Frequency is clear when BBR signs-off at 16.00 UTC; AIR is off at 17.40 UTC but less of a problem. SO, should Ozy Radio transmit after these times, and propagation permits, it may be possible to catch their broadcast of pop music.  Even with this remote receiver Ozy Radio rated a SINPO of  24332 - poor but audible and occasionally clear signal, despite atmospheric noise at near equal level as audio. By 10.15 UTC signal was buried in static and just barely audible.

BULGARIA
Voice Of The Report Of The Week
via Kostinbrod was heard from 16.00 till 17.00 UTC, on the short-wave frequency of 9.400 kHz. A selection of music requests from listeners around the world with DJ commentary was observed under poor to fair conditions. SINPO rated a  34322 which degraded due to atmospheric noise and fading.

CHINA
Chongqing PBS
, News Service (Chóngqìng Rénmín Guǎngbō Diàntái, Xīnwén Pínlǜ) was logged on the medium-wave frequency of 1314 kHz, here in the Kuala Lumpur area. An all news broadcast was observed from 17.00 till 17.40 UTC. SINPO 23322 - weak to fair signal with momentary peaks of clear audio, despite co-frequency interference from presumably Osaka Broadcasting Corporation (Japan). By 17.30 UTC, Chongqing PBS dominated the frequency. Before 17.00 UTC, Chongqing PBS signal was impossible hear due to a station in Thailand operating on the same frequency.

INDIA
All India Srinagar A / Akashvani Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir with classical Indian music followed by news in English and Hindi was observed from 17.15 till 17.40 UTC. Reception on the medium-wave frequency of 1116 kHz was weak and barely audible, breaking occasionally above the noise and heterodyning, then fading under every few minutes. SINPO rated a puny 13431.

All India Radio Tawang / Akashvani Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh (presumed) was observed with classical Indian music mixing under China Radio International (Urumqi) at 17.20 UTC. Reception on the medium-wave frequency of 1521 kHz rated a SINPO of 13421 -- weak but audible signal detected, co-frequency mixing with CRI and fading.

JAPAN
Radio Osaka (Osaka Broadcasting Corporation / JOUF)
was logged on the medium-wave frequency of 1314 kHz. Japanese pop songs were observed from 17.00 till 17.40 UTC (01.00 till 01.40 AM, Japan time). SINPO rated 13221 - weak signal with momentary peaks of clear audio, despite co-frequency interference from presumably Chongqing PBS (in Xinjiang, China). By 17.30 UTC, Chongqing PBS dominated the frequency, and OBC-JOUF was inaudible. Before 17.00 UTC, OBC-JOUF signal was impossible hear due to Thai station operating on the same frequency.

NORTHERN MARIANA ISLANDS
Radio Free Asia via Tinian with Tibetan language broadcast from 10.00 till 10.35 UTC (broadcast time 10.00 till 11.00 UTC). SINPO on 15.330 kHz at sign-on rated 43544 -- strong signal with clear and audible content, despite persistent droning noise (possibly from transmitter) and weak co-frequency station under RFA's signal. Around 10.30 UTC, transmitter noise worsened and signal gradually faded under the noise, making reception incoherent at times.

TURKEY
Voice of Turkey English broadcast of news, cultural programmes and Turkish pop music was observed from 16.35 till 17.28 UTC (broadcast time 16.30 till 17.28 UTC), under fair to good conditions. SINPO on 15.520 kHz initially rated 34433 -- fair to good signal and clear audio, despite co-frequency interference from Radio Exterior de Espana and occasional fading under atmospheric noise. Reception improved slightly after 17.00 UTC with stronger signal, but with occasional fading and minor QRM, earning a SINPO of 44444.
