was heard from 17.10 till 17.30 UTC with a selection of Indian film/folk music. Reception on the medium-wave frequency of 1305 kHz was (SINPO)  23222 -- poor to fair signal strength and clear audio depending on duration of fading (which on average was approximately two to three minutes apart). The only co-frequency interference in this time period is from a station in Thailand.

INDONESIA
Radio Republik Indonesia Singaraja (Pro-1) in Bali -- presumed -- was logged shortly after sign-on at 21.10 UTC. Indonesia pop music was observed mixing with Wor. Por. Thor. 16 -- Witthayu Prajaam Thin (Local Radio, Communications Division Army Signals Dept) in Yala Province (South Thailand). RRI Singaraja remains impossible to receive in the late evening (from 11.30 till 17.00 UTC) due to the more powerful China Radio International transmission out of Xuanwei City, Yunnan Province. Overall reception on the medium-wave frequency of 1080 kHz rated a SINPO of 23322 -- occassionally audible when not fading under Thai station. By 22.30 UTC only heterodyning signal was present.

ROMANIA
Radio Romania International
was heard  from 16.00 till 16.55 UTC, on the short-wave frequency of 9.500 kHz. SINPO was initially 33443 -- fair signal strength and clear audio, but with "white noise" from transmitter up until about 16.20 UTC. Around 16.40 UTC, reception was 44444 -- fair to good signal strength, clear audio with slight interference from TWR Africa (Swaziland), but "white noise" had disappeared.

TURKEY
Voice of Turkey was heard on 14 July 2017, from 16.30 till 17.25 UTC with English News, cultural programmes and Turkish music. SINPO on 15.520 kHz was initially at sign-on rated 35433 -- fair signal strength with fading, not always clear audio content. Reception worsened around 16.45 UTC to 25422 -- audio began dropping under atmospheric noise. By 17.00 UTC, reception was 15321 -- barely audible, then at 17.10 UTC it peaked to 25432 -- still poor, but audible and occasionally clear.

USA
WWV, transmitting from Fort Collins (CO), on 25 kHz was logged from 20 till 22 July 2017. On each day, only  time pips/pulses are present in LSB mode. Reception has been detected as early as 16.30 UTC up until 19.50 UTC. SINPO rated 15431 -- audible pips/pulses in LSB mode only, generally no voice ID/time announcement was noted when pips/pulses paused. While reception is poor and barely audible, WWV is present. In 2014, when WWV 25 was briefly activated, pips/pulses and voice content was received. HERE's an excerpt of WWV on 25 MHz as heard in Malaysia

ALASKA
New Life Station KNLS
in Anchor Point was heard on 9.690 kHz with a decent SINPO of 55444, Their usual mix of contemporary Western pop music and  Christian programming in English was heard from 10.20 UTC onward.

AUSTRALIA
ABC Radio National / 6RN
in Hamersley, City of Stirling (Perth), Western Australia continues to heard on 810 kHz (MW). Talk show host Rod Quinn was heard interviewing an author(?) on sexual issues, slightly after 19.00 UTC. Only brief peaks of audio surfaced above the atmospheric noise on this relatively clear frequency. Otherwise reception remains extremely poor for this 20 kW station. SINPO rated a paltry 14321, which is certainly not worth submitting to the station for verification.

JAPAN
Radio Nikkei 1
was observed on their usual 9.595 kHz frequency. SINPO was 34443, Reception of a largely Japanese talk format was clear and discernible at 10.20 UTC onward.

GREECE
Voice of Greece
via Avlis was heard with some lovely Greek music, station ID and promotion around 00.00 UTC. Transmission on 9.420 kHz rated a SINPO of 34443 -- clear and discernible audio content with a rather steady and fair signal.

PALAU
World Harvest Radio / T8WH
via Medorn radiated a strong, steady and clear signal on 9.930 kHz, earning a SINPO of 55555. Religious programming, music and station promos for World Harvest Radio was observed in English from 10.25 UTC onward.

PHILIPPINES
DWUN / Radyo La Verdad
was observed throughout the evening hours from 16.00 UTC onward with a talk format in Tagalog/English. Reception on 1350 kHz (MW) was quite good with a SINPO of 44434 -- good to fair strength especially when not fading under.

SOUTH KOREA
KBS World Radio
was heard signing-on with station interval at 10.25 UTC. Reception on 9.775 kHz was SINPO 54544 -- a strong and clear signal, despite some minor QRM when signal faded.

UNITED ARABIC EMIRATES
Abu Dhabi Media Company, Pravasi Bharathi in Abu Dhabi (UAE) was received  from 19.15 till 20.00 UTC. In an effort to catch ABC Radio National / 6RN in Perth (Western Australia), this station surfaced. Talk about the inconsistencies of propagation! Fortunately I was able to catch Pravasi Bharathi, although reception on 810 kHz was (SINPO) 23322 -- poor to fair signal strength when not fading under atmospheric noise, occasionally clear and discernible content. Around 19.50 UTC, unidentified co-frequency interference from another station (possibly Korea judging by the music) was observed. Otherwise in the 45 minutes this station was monitired a discussion in Malayam (about a sporting event -- cricket)  and South Indian music was heard. Big question remains -- will the station QSL?

VIETNAM
Voice of Vietnam (VoV5)
via Ha Noi was heard  with English programming of news and cultural programmes  from 23.30 till 23.57 UTC. Reception on 9.840 kHz was exceptionally good with a (SINPO) 54545 -- excellent audio clarity and strength with slight QRM when  fading occasionally occurred.

Son La Radio & TV Station (Đài Phát thanh - Truyền hình tỉnh Sơn La) in Son La City (Thành phố Sơn La) was heard after 22.00 UTC with Vietnamese pop music. A powerful signal on 828 kHz (MW), interference-free and clear easily scored a SINPO of 55555.

Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK-3)

Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK-3), transmitting from Golden Hill [Kam Shan], Hong Kong [Xianggang] on the medium-wave frequency of 567 kHz, has been monitored in Malaysia for over a month now. Not bad for a station that supposedly operates at 20kW, over 2,500 kms away!

Reception was initially observed after 17.30 till 18.30 UTC, but mixing with either AIR Dibrugarh (India), NHK1 (Hokkaido), KBS1 (South Korea), DXCH-AM or DWRP-AM (Philippines). Before 17.00 UTC stations in Thailand and Laos pretty much dominated the frequency in my quarter.

Propagation proved remarkably good on 5 July 2017, from 19.00 till 20.00 UTC, allowing clear and strong reception of RTHK-3, free of co-frequency QRM. Only  slight fading and occasional static bursts marred an otherwise beautiful signal. On the following night, 6 July, at the same time, reception again was decent enough to provide a clear, steady and audible signal.

The programme content is mostly in English, although occasionally Chinese is spoken. At the top of the hour time pips, station ID and news of the world and Hong Kong is heard from 18.00 UTC onward. This is followed five minutes later with "Night Music", a regular nightly programme featuring Western Classical music. HERE's a bit of the RTHK-3 programming.

Three reception reports were emailed: two in June and one in July. The initial report, sent in early June, was also posted to their station. RTHK-3 promptly responded to the emailed reports which included a few audio files. The clips, full of QRM and atmospheric noise mixing with their barely audible signal, was rejected as proof of reception and therefore insufficient for QSL. Reception report of 5 July 2017, submitted with multiple audio files of adequate quality and clarity, was confirmed on 7 July 2017. Paper QSL card and confirmation letter arrived in the mail on 18 July 2017.

RTHK-3 email promising QSL Card
Needless to say if one wishes to obtain a QSL from RTHK-3 be prepared. Make certain your report contains accurate and precise content, and be sure to include clear and audible audio files of their programming. Happy DXing and 73!

BBS headquarters
BHUTAN
Bhutan Broadcasting Service
out of Thimphul was observed during a English broadcast  from 11.00 till 12.00 UTC. News in English, followed by Western pop songs made up much of this hour-long broadcast. Reception on the short-wave frequency of 6.035 kHz was (SINPO) 23422 -- weak to fair signal when not mixing with Voice of Shangri-La (China). A dominant transmitter hum drowned out much of their audio when signal faded under. Signal improved slighly only after 11.50 UTC. HERE's BBS as heard in Malaysia.

HONG KONG
Propagation for Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK-3) proved to be remarkably good on the night of 5 July 2017, from 19.00 till 20.00 UTC (03.00 till 04.00 AM, Hongkong Time). For over a month this station has been observed, albeit never with the quality heard on this particular occasion. Reception on 567 kHz rated a SINPO of 34433 -- clear and strong signal, no QRM from co-frequency stations (as noted previously from around 17.40 till 18.45 UTC), occasional  static bursts and slight fade throughout much of the transmission from 19.00 till 20.00 UTC. Best reception occurred during the first half hour. HERE's a snippet from their "Night Music" programme.

INDIA
All India Radio Imphal (Akashvani Imphal)
in Manipur was noted at 17.00 with Indian music on the medium-wave frequency of 882 kHz. Reception was SINPO 33323 -- fair to good signal despite fading and occasional mixing with DWIZ in teh Philippines

All India Radio Siliguri (Akashvani Siliguri) in West Bengal was heard broadcasting classical Indian music followed by news in English and Hindi was observed from 17.05 till 17.44 UTC. Reception on the medium-wave frequency of 711 kHz was (SINPO) 34323 -- poor to fair signal strength when not fading under atmospheric noise or mixing with a Thai station, every two to four minutes. HERE's a excerpt from the AIR Siliguri transmission.

PHILIPPINES
DWIZ / Aliw Broadcasting Corporation
in Obando Bulacan Province (Manila area) was logged at 16.15 UTC. Station IDs in Talagog and English were heard clearly, earning a SINPO of 33433 on the medium-wave frequency of 882 kHz. While AIR Imphal and fading were noticeable, this was less a problem with direction of antenna was rotated towards the Philippines.

GFA - Athmik Yathra (via Trincomalee)

GFA - Athmik Yathra (AY Radio), transmitting from Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), was heard on 28 June 2017. Religious programming, mixed with a few regional songs, along with frequent contact details, was monitored 15.10 till 15.30 UTC.  Reception on the medium-wave frequency of 1548 kHz rated a (SINPO) of 54544 -- strong and clear audio with slight and occasional fading.

HERE's how Athmik Yathra sounded in Malaysia.

Reception report was emailed on the following day. An eQSL was received from Athmik Yathra on 4 July 2017. Paper QSL arrived in the mail on 10 August 2017.

Radio Televisyen Malaysia Wai FM

RTM Wai FM, transmitting from Kajang (Malaysia),  was logged on 2 June 2017, from 21.10 till 21.45 UTC with the azan for Fajr, several nasheeds and Malay pop songs. During this period, reception on 11.665 kHz rated an excellent SINPO of 54555. This is understandable given I live slightly over 30km from the transmitter site. But I hasten to add, at certain hours of the day Wai FM on this frequency is buried in atmospheric noise or interference from other short-wave broadcasters.

Reception report was emailed to Wai FM on the following day. A few days later an email confirmed and promised a QSL. A follow-up email was sent 3rd July 2017, owing that long holidays and festivals in Malaysia can delay delivery. True enough on 3rd July (note postmark) the QSL was mailed, and it arrived the following day at my home.

QSL from FEBA Gawayelon Tibetan Radio

HONG KONG
Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK-3) is radiating well beyond Hong Kong to Malaysia, especially between 18.00 till 18.30 UTC. Reception is barely audible, but RTHK-3 time pips at 18.00 UTC, just before the news, is unmistakable. Secondly, classical (piano) music after the news is most certainly RTHK-3. All audio at the time was checked against their website's live stream, While RTHK-3 is mixing faintly under the more dominant broadcasters DXCH-AM or DWRP-AM (with religious programming) and AIR Dibrugarh, their signal is definitely present on 567 kHz (MW). Overall. reception rates a SINPO of 13221 -- poor signal strength when not fading (every few minutes) and mixing with stations. On previous occasions RTHK-3 has been observed mixing under NHK-1 (JOIK) and KBS-1 (HLKF), depending on propagation.

INDONESIA
Voice of Indonesia English service was observed on 9.525 kHz, Regular programme features including News of Indonesia,  "This Day in History", "Indonesian Wonder", "Miscellany" and "Music Corner" was observed from 13.00 till 14.00 UTC. VOI 2018 Quiz to visit Indonesia was announced frequently during the broadcast as well. SINPO rated a 55545 -- strong and clear audio, occasional and slight fade later in the broadcast.

PHILIPPINES
DWNX-AM / Radio Mindanao Network (RMN), located in Naga City, Camarines Sur Province, is a relatively new Philippine station (or at least new on this frequency).  It was logged on 1611 kHz (MW).with music around 12.45 UTC. Reception was poor to fair, on an otherwise clear frequency but loads of atmospheric noise, earning a SINPO of 25332.

UAE
FEBA Gawayelon Tibetan Radio via Dhabbayah was received on 15.215 kHz with Tibetan programming of songs, along with contact details, from 12.15 till 12.30 UTC (broadcast time 12.00 till 12.10 UTC). Reception rated a (SINPO) of 55555 -- strong and clear audio
