KBS World Radio / Indian DX Report

KBS World Radio / Indian DX Report, transmitting  Kimjae, Republic of Korea, was logged on 30 March 2013. An English language broadcast featuring "Seoul Report" and "Worldwide Friendship" mailbag programme with Indian DX Report was monitored from 16.00 to 17.00 UTC. Reception on 9.640 kHz was (SINPO)  54545 -- minor fading and slight adjacent station splatter. 

Reception report was emailed to KBS World Radio and Indian DX Report. The IDXR eQSl was sent on 25 April 2013; KBS World QSL arrived in the mail on 2 May 2013.

Radio Habana Cuba April-October 2013 Schedule

Radio Free Malaysia (via Taiwan)

Radio Free Malaysia, presumably broadcasting from Radio Taiwan International's MW transmitter site, was logged on 27 March 2013. Programmes discussing political issues, listener phone-in conversations and politically themed music in bahasa Malaysia was monitored from  13.45 to 15.00 UTC / 21.45 to 23.00 Malaysia time (broadcast time 13.00 to 15.00 UTC / 21.00 to 23.00 Malaysia time). Reception on the medium-wave frequency of 1359 kHz  was (SINPO) 34423 -- fair signal strength despite minor interference from another station and fading every 5 to 7 minutes. 

Although I'm skeptical, a reception report was emailed to Radio Free Malaysia and Radio Taiwan International and sent to RFM's Facebook page on the following day. Hopefully RTI, and more specifically RFM, will have the interest  to QSL or eQSL like RTM and Radio Free Sarawak.

Haiphong Radio / Vietnam Maritime Weather Station

Haiphong Radio / Vietnam Maritime Communication & Electronics LCC (VISHIPEL) was logged on 24 March 2013 (25 March 2013 in South East Asia). With headquarters based in Hai Phong City, Haiphong Radio was observed broadcasting maritime weather reports from Da Nang, Ben Thuy and Ho Chi Minh from 23.35 to 00.10 UTC. Every 10 minutes Haiphong Radio signed on with a beeping ring tone, followed by a female announcer presenting each coastal station's maritime weather report in Vietnamese and mentioning frequencies "kilohertz", then back to beeping ring tone until transmission closed. Reception on 7.906 kHz in USB mode was (SINPO) 44444 -- good audio quality and strength with only minor interference. 

A reception report was emailed shortly afterwards. QSL-letter was received by email on 25 March 2013.

Atlantic 2000 International (Internet)

Atlantic 2000 International, broadcasting from France on shortwave and the Internet, was logged on 24 March 2013. A French language programme of English and French pop music was heard from 09.25 to 10.00 UTC (broadcast time 09.00 to 10.00 UTC). Unable to receive them on 6.005 kHz, I resorted to their Internet stream at 24 kps in mp3 format, using an Apple iPod Touch.

Reception report was emailed to Atlantic 2000 after the broadcast. Within the hour, I received a reply stating: "Thank you very much for this new reception report. You will receive our QSL-card soon." This eQSL was received on 31 March 2013.

Radio Taiwan International (via Dhabbaya)

Radio Taiwan International, transmitting from Dhabbaya, UAE was received on  17 March 2013. A French language broadcast of Chinese classical music and lifestyle topics was monitored from 19.20 to 20.00 UTC (broadcast time 19.00 to 20.00 UTC). Reception on 9.895 kHz was (SINPO) 34443 -- fair signal strength with light QRM, otherwise transmission of audio was clear. 

Receiver used was a Tecsun S-2000 (Grundig Satellit 750) linked to a 10-meter vertically elevated 1/4 antenna with a lead-in of 15 meters of shielded 50 ohm coaxial.

Reception report was submitted on-line and emailed to RTI. This QSL card, along with two sachets of jasmine green tea, arrived in the mail on 4 September 2013 after a few follow-up emails.

Norddeutschland Rundfunk 1 - Niedersachsen (Internet)

Norddeutscher Rundfunk 1 (NRD 1), transmitting from from their studio in Niedersachsen, Lower Saxony, Germany, was logged on 16 March 2013. An Internet stream from their website was monitored from 10.00 to 11.00 UTC (11.00 to 12.00 CET). News, weather and pop music with listener phone-in requests in German (and Plattdeutsch) was observed during this time frame. The NDR1 website stream used was www.ndr.de/onaircenter109-onaircenterpopup.html

Reception report was submitted on-line at NDR, emailed and submitted at NRD Facebook page, on the same day as the broadcast monitored. An email acknowledging my reception report -- without an actual QSL card -- was received on 26 April 2013.

Caribbean Beacon - University Network (via Anguilla)

Caribbean Beacon (University Network), transmitting from The Valley, Anguilla, was logged on 15 March 2013. Pastor Melissa Scott and a Bible discussion in English was monitored from 20.00 to 21.00 UTC. Reception on 11.775 kHz was (SINPO) 22332 -- weak signal strength but audible, despite strong interference from Radio Algerienne Holy Quran (via TDF - TéléDiffusion de France) in Issoudun, France. As grey-line between Asia and Caribbean approached and Radio Algerienne signed off at 21.00 UTC reception  improved to 24332.

Reception report was emailed to Doris Mussington at Caribbean Beacon on the following day. Previous attempts to QSL yielded the promise of a QSL, but no verification ever reached its destination. In late 2012, after contacting Caribbean Beacon again, I was informed their QSL cards had finished. This time around I have requested a Letter of Verification should a QSL card not be viable.

Radio Algerienne Holy Quran (via TDF - TéléDiffusion de France)

Radio Algerienne Holy Quran (via TDF - TéléDiffusion de France), transmitting from Issoudun, France, was logged on 15 March 2013. Quran recitation (in Arabic) and tafsir discussion (in Arabic) with station ID and details in French was monitored from 20.00 to 20.30 UTC. Reception on 11.775 kHz (SINPO): 34443 - fair signal strength, audible and clear despite with slight interference from Caribbean Beacon and some minor fading, especially as grey-line between Asia and Caribbean approached.

Reception report was submitted to TDF, owing that previous attempts to QSL directly from Radio Algerienne have failed. Report was  emailed to various people at TDP and their Facebook site. This eQSL-letter from TDF was received on 20 March 2013.

RRI Fak-Fak (via West Papua)

RRI Fak-Fak in  West Papua, Sulawesi, Indonesia was logged 13 March 2013. A broadcast of community announcements, pop tunes and an Islamic programme was monitored from 11.15 to 11.50 UTC Reception on 4.790 kHz was (SINPO) 24332 -- poor signal strength, audible and clear in peaks, despite atmospheric noise and transmitter whinning.

Reception report was emailed and posted in subsequent days. Report was submitted in Bahasa Indonesia and a sample of a Verification Letter from another RRI station was enclosed. This Letter of Verification was emailed on 16 July 2013.

Radio Romania International (via Galbeni)

Radio Romania International, transmitting from Galbeni, Romania, was logged on  12 March 2013. An English language broadcast of news, sports, language course, music and news reel was monitored from 21.30 to 21.56 UTC. Reception on 7.380 kHz was (SINPO) 44444 -- good signal strength with moderate fading and interference from adjacent stations. Receiver used was a Tecsun BCL-3000 linked to an inverted 'L' antenna.

Reception report was emailed on the same day. Within a few hours I received an email promising to send a QSL card. This QSL arrived in the mail on 30 April 2013.

Voice of Oromo Liberation (via Issoudun)

Voice of Oromo Liberation (Sagalee Bilisummaa Oromoo) via Media Broadcast in Issoudun, France was logged on Sunday, 10 March 2013. Note: transmission is only on Sunday and Wednesday. A speech in Afar Oromo was monitored from 17.00 to 17.30 UTC. Reception on 13.810 kHz  at 17.00 UTC was (SINPO)  35343 -- fair signal strength, good audio quality, minor fading. However, around  17.10 UTC a droning  or jamming sound muffled clarity of speech, degrading reception to 22332.  

Reception report was emailed to Broadcast Media and SBO the following day. An eQSL and email from Broadcast Media arrived on 6 May 2013,

SWR4 - Freiburg im Breisgau (Internet)

Sudwestrundfunk 4 (SWR4) - 101.8 mHz, broadcasting from a studio  in Freiburg im Breisgau, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, was logged on 10 March 2013. A German language broadcast of news and weather, followed by "Sonntagskonzert"  (Classical music) moderated by Lothar Ackva was monitored from 10.00 to 10.30 UTC. Mode of reception was an  Internet stream at 48 kps in mp3 format. Excellent audio quality and a steady stream was noted. Device used was an Apple iPod Touch with iTunes Radio application. 

Reception report was submitted on-line and Facebook at SWR4 within a few hours. On 13 March 2013, I received this message from SWR4  Facebook: "Thank you for your mail, Timm. We hope that you will receive our QSL-Card in a few days. Good luck on further listening, from SWR4." QSL card and stickers arrived in the mail on 25 March 2013.

Deutschlandfunk - Berlin (Internet)

Deutschlandfunk,  broadcasting presumably from Berlin, Germany, was logged on 10 March 2013.  An Internet stream at 128 kps in mp3 format was accessed from DLF's website. A German language broadcast of classic Rock standards hosted by Udo  Vieth, followed by news/sports/weather, commentary from Thomas Oechsner and "Geistliche Musik" (Classical compositions) was monitored from 04.40 to 05.30 UTC (05.40 AM to 06.30  in Berlin). 

A reception report was submitted on-line and emailed to Deutschlandfunk on the same day. A computer generated message immediatedly was received, indicating email had been received. This QSL card arrived in the mail on 20 June 2013.

Deutsche Welle (via Kigali)

Deutsche  Welle, transmitting from Kigali, Rwanda, was logged on 9 March 2013. An English language broadcast of news and news programmes "World Link" and "Women's Day" biographies was noted from 19.00 to 19.57 UTC. Reception on 15.275 kHz was (SINPO): 34443 -- fair signal strength with  slight atmospheric noise. By 19.30 UTC, signal quality was degarded to 34333 due to increased fading and atmospheric noise.

Reception report was emailed and submitted on-line the following day to Deutsche Welle. Their more recently designed QSL arrived in the mail on 17 April 2013.

Radio Spaceshuttle International (Finland)

Radio Spaceshuttle International, a free radio (pirate) station in Finland, was received on 15.880 kHz (USB mode), from 11.00 UTC onward, on 9  March 2013.  Signal was weak, yet audible, just above atmospheric noise. At 11.00 UTC, music  -- what sounded like "World Music" -- with intermittent talking  from a male DJ between songs was observed.  Broadcast was monitored, off and on, up until 16.00 UTC.  Reception (SINPO) was 14221 for most of the transmission. Audio quality never rose much above the noise, except after 15.30 UTC when quality improved.slightly to 24322.

A reception report was emailed on the same day. Dick at Radio Spaceshuttle confirmed the report minutes later with this message: "Many thanks. Shall prepare a QSL for you, and yes, we played px "Artems World Music" from around 10:15-11:20 UTC. Some promotionals and then Spaceshuttle-CoolAM 11:29- 12:30 UTC." This eQSL arrived on 21 March 2013.

Vatican Radio (via Tinang)

Vatican Radio, transmitting from Tinang, Philippines, was logged 8 March 2013.  A Chinese language broadcast of Western choral music was  monitored from 22.10 to 22.30 UTC (broadcast time 22.00 to 22.30 UTC). Reception on 7.395 kHz was (SINPO)  35443 -- fair signal strength with good clarity, despite mild fading and some atmospheric noise.

Reception report was emailed to Vatican Radio on 11 March 2013. Later in the evening, I received an email confirming with a promised QSL card. The actual QSL card arrived in the mail on 25 March 2013.

VOA - Deewa Radio (via Iranawila)

VOA -  Deewa Radio, transmitting from Iranawila, Sri Lanka, was logged on  4 March 2013. Pashto language broadcast of music and a capella singing from listeners was monitored from  18.05 to 19.00 UTC. Reception on 9.370 kHz was (SINPO) 34433 - fair signal strength with minor fading and atmospheric noise, otherwise audio was clear. Transmitter occasionally  (at least 4 times) would close for a second, then power up again.

Reception report was emailed to VOA-Deewa Radio and IBB on the following day. Received an email stating they would "Look into it (getting a QSL)". A QSL card from VOA arrived in the mail on 10 April 2013.

RRI Makassar (Sulawesi)

RRI Makassar, transmitting from Makassar, Sulawesi, Indonesia, was logged on 3 March 2013. An ustazah discussed various Islamic topics. This was followed by a nashid, station ID and Indonesian pop music. All of this was monitored from 21.45 to 22.20 UTC. Reception on 4.750 kHz was (SINPO) 44444 -- good signal strength and good audio clarity, despite some transmitter noise and light fading.

AIR Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala, India)

All India Radio Thiruvananthapuram, transmitting from Kerala, India, was logged on 2 March 2013. An English language broadcast of music, including the song "Fame", and conversation with listeners was monitored from 14.05 to 14.30 UTC. At 14.30 UTC, a broadcast in presumably Hindi followed. Reception on 5.010 kHz was (SINPO) 34333 -- fair signal strength, despite droning transmitter noise behind audio feed, along with some atmospheric noise and minor fading. Otherwise speech was audible and clear.

Reception report was emailed on the following day. This QSL card arrived in the mail on 14 August 2013. This was a big surprise considering non-GOS from AIR have been so difficult for me personally to QSL.
