Logbook 17-19 August 2917

DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF KOREA
Voice of Korea
in an English language broadcast of news reports commemorating the anniversary of  peninsular Korea's liberation from Japanese occupational forces, congratulatory messages from Palestine, Indonesia and Nepal on this anniversary, condemnation of UN/US sanctions applied to DPRK over nuclear weapons and ICBM launch, commentary on Republic Korea's imperialistic policies towards DPRK and  patriotic music was heard from 10.35 till 11.00 UTC (broadcast time 10:30 till 11:27). Reception on the short-wave frequency of  15.180 kHz rated a SINPO of 54544 -- excellent signal strength and clear audio, despite slight   fading. HERE's an excerpt from this broadcast.

MOLDOVA
Trans World Radio Africa, transmitting from Kishinev-Grigoriopol in the Tigre language, was heard from 18.00 till 18.30 UTC (in a Saturday only broadcast). Presume Evangelical Christian topic, presented by a male announcer, with TWR theme/programme music between talk and a couple of religous vocal songs were observed during this half hour broadcast. Reception on the short-wave frequency of 9.940 kHz initially rated a SINPO of 43444 - good signal, despite dominant transmitter whine and fading under atmospheric noise; however, signal weakened around 18.20 UTC with fading under atmospheric noise.

SRI LANKA
Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation
, transmitting from Trincomalee, in a test transmission was monitored from 17.00 till 17.15 UTC. A mix of listener phone-in discussions and Tamil music was observed in this brief transmission  Reception on 11.835 kHz was good with relatively no interference, clear audio and minor fading. TAIWAN
Radio Taiwan International
, in a transmission originating from Baochung, was observed broadcasting the English language programmes"Hear in Taiwan",  "Starting Over" and "One Last Thing"  from 11.00 till 12.00 UTC. Reception on the short-wave frequency of  11.600 kHz rated a SINPO of 55444. HERE's how RTI sounded  in Malaysia.
